You will say ‘Wow’

Here is a famous quote from Calvin Coolidge …

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

I want you to think about that – Unsuccessful men with talent / Educated derelicts part, and watch this …

To me, the greatest tradgedy is that after The Columbus Dispatch made the video that received millions of YouTube views, and Entertainment Tonight doing the ‘heavy lifting’ on the project that is Ted Williams … he credits some sky daddy / god FFS

The strapline of his book is … “how faith, hard work & humility brought me from the streets to salvation”

With due respect to the guy, it absoloutly was not faith or hard work that got him off crack, fixed his teeth, and gifted him a home, a job & new celebrity.

It was the foresight, vision, money & hard work of fellow humans – without whom his ‘god’ would have seen him still a panhandling crackhead

  1. Every one can have their dream and live it – I’m sure this guy will/ has; focus, dedication, and ultimate willingness will always win over adversity and the other curve balls life throws your way.

  2. Good for him is my reaction Dave.

I don’t think it is determination or persistence that won the game for him, although they would play a part in it. as people can persistently and with determination do the wrong things at the wrong time for them and never be winners.

I saw a clip of him in a studio so he must be doing what he desires now and the old phrase from Mr Hill about a burning desire with the appropriate other qualities has won him the day. A bit like the arrow on the fed express logo it was there all the time but not seen or recognised by many until it was pointed out to them, juat like his brilliant voice.
    best wishes

  3. Whoa what a fabulous voice! Apparently he’s getting loads of offers for work now which is wonderful.

Sad to think how many more talented people have slipped through the cracks though, while the useless are running and ruining society. Never been fond of that sanctimonious adage of the rich: “cream always rises to the top”. As Jarvis Cocker so pithily pointed out : “s*** floats”. Station in life is no measure of a man and too often the homeless are invisible.

Hope the dude builds himself a great life and puts the bad times behind him.

*sappy grin* I lurrrve a happy ending.

  4. This guy has an amazing voice. What you have done here is hightlighted my greatest fear – that is not achieving my goals by allowing ‘things’ to distract my focus. I don’t want to end up standing on street corners trying to sell my wares!!! Thanks Dave.

  5. As Ali Campbell reminds us: “It’s who you are , not what you are that is important” We have to consider what makes us ‘remarkable’ as individuals and embrace it. This guy has come through his tough times and remembered that important truth. By embracing it, I’ve not doubt he’ll get whatever it is he’s looking for….a few bucks for starters, no doubt. All the best for 2011, Dave!

  6. He has one of those once heard never forgotton kind of voices, I think he has a very good voice for radio, easy to listen to.
Someone should give him a break.

  7. Hi David,

A good post and it proves the point despite the guy having gone through some bad times, he’s still out there focusing on being spotted 🙂

It kind of slaps you when you think how much we can do through being in a more fortunate position than some but so often laziness and procrastination take hold all too easily!
